The Islamic University of Kenya (IUK) was established in the early 2000s by the International Trust for Education (ITED), initially focusing on diploma courses in Islamic and Arabic studies. Recognizing the increasing demand for affordable, quality higher education, the university expanded its academic offerings to include programs in business management, technology, and education. In December 2016, IUK was granted a Letter of Interim Authority by the Commission for University Education (CUE), marking its official recognition as a higher education institution. A significant milestone was achieved in November 2024 when IUK was awarded a charter by President William Ruto, officially recognizing it as a fully-fledged university. Today, IUK operates its main campus in Kisaju, located along the Nairobi-Namanga Highway, with additional learning centers in Nairobi and Mombasa.
